Since 1976, Normanton Rodeo has been lighting up the old Queen’s Birthday Weekend in June with a weekend of non-stop action—and it’s only grown bigger and better each year. Spanning four jam-packed days, the Normanton Rodeo features Rodeo, Campdrafting, Gymkhana, a Street Parade, the QCWA Show, and live entertainment every night.

Camping & Facilities
Camping is available for both competitors and spectators. There are plenty of amenities spaced throughout the grounds, and power and water is available in most areas. You don't need to book a spot, however if you are not competing, you will need to purchase a weekend pass to be able to camp - these can be purchased at the gate or online here.
Payments & Eftpos
There is EFTPOS facilities available at the grounds, however the internet signal can be unreliable at times - we recommend that you bring some cash just in case!
Dogs & animals
Dogs are allowed on the grounds, as long as they are kept on a leash or caged at all times. Please note - any dogs that are overly aggressive or disruptive may be asked to be removed from the grounds.
Competitors/Tickets
You MUST have a ticket to enter the venue if you are not a competitor, volunteer or life member. This includes attending the QCWA Show Shed on Friday and Saturday. Day & Weekend Passes are available at the gate or can be purchased online here prior to the event.
Nominations & Membership
All Rodeo nominations are done via this website, with a valid NQRA Weekend Membership. Please ensure that you purchase the relevant Junior or Senior Membership when nominating.
All competitors MUST attend the Secretary's Box to sign their membership and waiver forms prior to competing. If you do not sign these forms, you will be unable to compete.
OUR LOCATION
Normanton is located in the Gulf of Carpentaria QLD, approximately 800km west of Cairns and 380km north of Cloncurry.
Our venue is just outside of Normanton. located about 2km south of the township at 1 Racecourse Road, Normanton QLD 4890. The turnoff has plenty of signage - you won't miss it!

Rodeo Rules
All Round Cowboy/Girl
The following events are eligible for All Round points - Open Bull Ride, Open Bronc Ride, Open Team Roping, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Novice Bronc Ride, Novice Bull Ride, Ladies Barrel Race (1st Division ONLY), Steer Undecorating, Ladies Breakaway Roping.
Points are allocated as 1st = 4 points, 2nd = 3 points, 3rd = 2 points and 4th = 1 point EXCEPT in the Open Team Roping, where points are allocated as 1st = 2 points, 2nd = 1.5 points, 3rd = 1 point, 4th = 0.5 points (1/2 points).

Ladies barrel race
The Ladies Barrel Race will be run over two rounds (held on Friday & Saturday) and a 1D final on Sunday afternoon. Each horse and rider combination will run in both rounds, with all 1D qualifiers advancing to the final.
Round Money is paid out for 1st Division in both the 1st and 2nd rounds. The average for 2nd and 3rd Division will be paid at the completion of Round Two. The 1st Division average will be paid upon the completion of the Final.
JUNIOR GIRLS BARREL RACE

The Junior Girls Barrel Race is run over one round on Sunday. Nominations are restricted to one horse per rider. Open barrel horses cannot be ridden in this event. A rider nominated in the Junior Girls Barrel Race cannot be entered in the Ladies Barrel Race. Helmets must be worn.
CALF RIDE
·
Calf Ride – STRICTLY UNHELD Calves cannot be held as per animal welfare regulations. No spurs are to be worn. All competitors must wear a vest and helmet. Children must be aged between 7-11 years of age.
OPEN BULL RIDE
A rider nominated in the Open Bull Ride cannot nominate in the Bullock Ride, Novice Bull Ride or Station Buckjump. All competitors must wear a vest.
OPEN BRONC RIDE

A rider nominated in the Open Saddle Bronc cannot nominate in Novice Saddle Bronc, Station Buckjump or Bullock Ride.
JUNIOR COMPETITORS
ALL Junior Competitors (U18) must wear a helmet while mounted in all timed events. Junior roughstock competitors must wear a vest and helmet.
